Hi guys, quick question, I was wondering if I wanted to add a 5.4lFI engine from lets say a '04 f-150, would I get away with a nice rebuild stock suspension, oh and 2-3 inch drop or it would be better for me to just save up and wait for a IFS? any suggestions greatly appreciated, oh and I have 1955 f100
There's tons of threads on re- engine here if the search engine will dig them up for you. You shouldn't have any problem with it - just the usual - motor mounts transmission crossmember, etc.
I'm sure the "Effie" guys will jump in, but I wanted to welcome you!
PS I have a 390 in my 51 with a stock front end. Lots of these kinds of mods.
Thanks Julies, I know I should search, but I just wanted some quick input, usually in a other board I am in I always say search to, I just fell lazy haha but I will search, thanks.
I don't believe the 5.4 engine is much different in weight than the Y-block that would have come in your '55. You shouldn't have any issues with the stock suspension with that swap. Unless you want IFS, I wouldn't consider that modification a requirement.
The original suspension will hold up but IMHO I'd save for the IFS. It won't be original anymore anyway with the new engine so why not put something under it that will improve drivability and handling. Even if you keep the stock suspension you will spend money on it to get it 3 inches lower so why not spend it on a new suspension? Brakes will also have to be updated. The 5.4 will give you a lot more horses than the original engine and you will need better brakes for those horses...

Honestly, the search engine here is pretty bad. So, you'll probably get better responses just by asking.
We've all talked about this before and many of us save those threads to favorites. So, we are like little search engines! Ask anything anytime!
