Oil Filter

Guys,

I just did my oil change and maybe I am just getting old and "C" nile but when you loosen up the filter housing cap I swore there was a spring that popped the cap up once it was completely unscrewed. Am I correct or just loosing it? I called the dealership and they could not find one (thought I lost it) so know I am scratching my dome.

Spring
or
Nuts!

That spring effect was the drain back valve in the filter housing. When you lift the filter a drain valve opens letting the oil in the filter housing drain into the oil pan. When you install a new filter and screw the cap down it closes the spring loaded valve. Lube the O ring with oil, snap the filter into the cap and screw down till the cap bottoms out. Then torque to spec.

Thanks I was just making sure....

One last Q...the zerks on the front axles to grease the U-Joints...Normal Bearing/Ball joint grease is acceptable?

Time to hit them and I know I never have, the dealer for dam sure didn't.

That's good. I like the hi-temp grease for the wheel bearings.
