1988 Bronco XLT question.....

Im new to the forum and im trying to fix my friends car. Her alternator needs to come out...however, I have 2 questions...

1) Is it only held in by 2 bolts? One on the lower left and one on the upper right?

2) Where is the belt tensioner on this thing? I cant seem to find it....if anyone has an in-depth engine diagram, Id really appreciate it.

Thanks

Mike

Yes, two bolts.

The tensioner is just to the driver's side of the alt and down a bit - it's the idler pulley. Just stick a socket on there, I forget the size but 5/8" sounds right, and slack it off. The bolt is reverse thread so no worries on loosening that bolt when you slack the belt.

What year/engine is the truck? There should be a belt routing diagram sticker somewhere at the front of the engine compartment. Don't let the wire from the red terminal on the back touch anything unless you've disconnected the battery.
