**Edit:resized =D**Hey, I have been looking into a 78 f100 ranger a couple houses down for $500. it runs great, even looks pretty decent. But, we took the bed off and the frame looks pretty rusted. I have no experience in rusted frames, and what is safe. Please let me know if this things even worth gettin, thanks!
I think you take the award for largest pics ever posted on FTE, as for the frame it looks pretty typical for a 30yr old truck from the northeast i.e. the rustbelt, it has lots of surface rust but otherwise looks to be pretty solid.
Montana's right! Wow those are big! Unless your frame is completely rusted through it shouldn't be a problem. Take a sandblaster to it and you wouldn't believe the results. If a crossmember is rusted through it's nothing to fab up a new one.
Agreed. I have seen much worse on many vehicles that held up just fine.
Yours is about like mine. Not pretty but not unsalvageable by any means. I'll be taking a grinder with sanding discs to mine, then coating it with Rust Bullet. I may add some reinforcement to certain areas as a "lifetime precaution", but I don't really see any issues as far as it holding up as-is under normal circumstances.
The thick areas of layered rust are what you need to keep an eye out for. That's the indicator that something could be very wrong structurally.
If you want to resize pictures, do a google search for "picture resizer". There's a number of online sites that will help you do it - and for free - but I know nothing about any of those sites, so I can't say that they are 100% safe.
Or, I can resize the pictures for you if you wish. Send me a PM with the pics, or I'll give you my e-mail addy.

looks perfectly normal to me. if i found a truck without at least that much surface rust on the frame, id think i just found a frame made of gold... my 76 has at least as much, and im not afraid to get the tires off the ground in it.
Well, Sorry for Bumpin' this old thread back up...
I just found his E-Mail, and I thought everyone should see his truck...
It sure is a nice '78 F-100!
