New Ford Guy here!

Well I had all the fun I could stand with my first year production 07 Tundra and decided to give the Ford F-150 a try. I compared the F-150 and the Silverado pretty hard but the Ford one. I got a 2010 Crew Cab short box with the 4.6L 3v engine and 6spd tranny. Only had it a day but I am loving it. Seeing as I am long time Toyota truck owner, and this is my first new Ford truck ever, you all will have to bear with me if I ask a lot of questions!

Nice looking truck, I just bought one 2 days ago and am really impressed. I think you will find the ford to be a much better truck than the toyo, and if you have questions this is the place to get them answered, welcome to fte

My old truck ( 03 superduty crewcab) and my new one (2010 f150 supercab) have the same dark gray paint and it is the only color I will own from here on out. As a matter of fact when we bought my wifes 2007 Crysler Aspen she did not care what color so I said dark grey it is. Congrats on the truck and wecome to the Ford experience.

That's a good looking F150. I wish the Tundras would be a bit more level up front. Mine has an excessive rake (brush guard), but it's indispensable.

As far as the 18s go, you might be able to find a set off of the FX4 if you like that wheel pattern.

18inch Ford Truck Rims and Tires

Just an example... but dang those things seem a bit expensive.

I'll tell you what, the wheels are a heck of a lot cheaper than the tires.

Ah yeah true, I was typing up a bit on maybe keeping the 17s since hte price of rubber would be cheaper, but you don't save a whole lot of money from 18s to 17s any more. It used to be a BIG jump from 16 to 18s, and from 18 to 20s.

Good luck whatever you decide to do though...

I priced up some LT 17" tires yesterday and they quoted me $1200 for Toyos...ouch!!!! Since I have the Toyos already in 18's, wheels are only like $600 from Tire Rack, the only problem is the 18" Toyos weigh 51lbs each, thats 13lbs heavier per tire, cant see that being good for my fuel economy.

That's rough. You'll eat up some of that mileage from the 4.6 over the 5.4 just by doing that.

It will effectively lower your gear ratio as well which is never fun. I am seeing 9 mpg with my truck and the KOs (about 20 lbs heavier a tire than stock). I see approximately 15.5 on the highway.

You'll prolly lose a good mile per gallon by switching tires.

If the risk of getting a flat isn't an issue, then why not just run the michelin's til they're all torn up?

Also, you might be able to get an Edge programmer and get some of those MPGs back (as well as some power).

Hell, I'd be afraid to run a 5.4 with the Edge programmer. I almost lost to a 5.3 silverado with 139K miles, it's second transmission, a set of KOs, and a HD Brush guard on there. I caught him by 50 (he jumped me b/c I knew I'd catch him ).

Congrats on the new rig! I see you went through Seekins. I'll be moving to the Fairbanks area in about a month and they will probably be servicing my 09 F150. What do you think if them?

Cant say anything other than what I have heard about Seekins service department, and what I have heard isn't all that great. Have never owned a Ford under warranty that needed serviced by them. I will say that the purchase deal with them was hands down the smoothest transaction I have ever had with a car dealership. I kept waiting for the BS to fly and it simply never did. They were straight with me from the git go.

I ordered some Moto Metal black 951 wheels today and will be putting my 18" Toyos on them . Trcuk should look sweet with the black wheels. The Toyos are only a hair taller (.5") than the Michelins it came with and only weigh 7 lbs more a piece, so it shouldn't hurt my mileage too much. Will post pics when I get em.

WOW This is one nice truck and I like the wheels on it. You made a really good choice going with this truck. Toyota is over rated and there trucks dont come close to the FORD! They might have more power but thats about it. Roll on Ford!!

Congrats on the new truck and welcome to the ford family.......So was it the wanting a truck that didn't drive itself that drove you to buy a ford???
