Just bought a used diesel Excursion and loving it so far. I have a heavy guage black wire coming up through the carpet under the middle row seats. It has a spade clip on the end to attch to a terminal of some sort. Any idea what it is designed for, or if it is OEM or aftermarket?
Ejector seat - don't reattach it! If you hit a good bump it can accidentally trigger and send your wife flying
should be one bunch of wires going to the center for the rear controls and power point. if it's not in that group - most likely someones leftovers for a stereo.
There may be a red wire to go with it. Or someone rigged another way to run an inverter. I put an inverter in mine for the kids to run video consoles. Stereo amps usually don't use spade lugs, inverters do.

My 3000 Watt Inverter doesnt use spade terminals.. 1/0 Gauge wire with 5/16 lugs yes.... if its coming through the rubber grommet in the middle of the seats then its an aftermarket add-on for something
Got a pic? Look at my pics and see if that is what you see.
I don't have any pics. I looked through your gallery and only see a light housing and a brake controller. Nothing like the single heavy gauge wire I have under the middle row.

If it isn't part of the brake controller then it is something else.
this is where I mounted my inverter, second row bench, driver side, many folks will mount stereo amps here too which is probably the source of that wire
How hard was it to run the wires to your battery for that. I was thinking about mounting one there.
I have 3 batteries and an isolator . that inverter is connected to a deep cycle battery under the driver side floor... so its only about 4 ft of cable to the battery... pics are in my photo album
if you install one there be sure the seat belts can fold down and clear the inverter... else you will not be able to fold the second row seats down

Well, mine's only a 1500watt, and I thought it was heavy duty.
But about that black wire coming out of the floor. How about where a ground distribution block for amps used to be?
