I'll see he seems weird about me even taking a video of it because he's kinda pissed at how it sounds. he usually pulls out of the parking lot at school and just barely gives it gas going down the road, sad he paid $600 to get jerked around by a "professional" exhaust man.

Every other time i've heard flowmasters it actually sounded like flowmaster with that paticular sound, these have NO tone to them at all when you hear it you honestly think glasspacks, even my dad said so BEFORE i told him what exhaust it actually had, his jaw dropped when i told him flows. i mean just go on youtube and type in flowmaster 40's and listen to how good they all sound.

I always thought the point of an H/X pipe is because NO MATTER WHAT one side of the xhaust on a true dual seutp will be longer/shorter than the other, its just a matter of all the bending that has to be done. Both his mufflers are next to each other and run over the axle and out the back with 3.5" tips like every other system

so the H is just so the side that has more pressure in it can just release it into the crossover and even everything out which i always thought wouldn't give it that choppy sound???

I think it needs some Super 44's or something. the Supers have a bigger case and a more of a "low" earth shaking sound with little rasp.....the standard 40's just sound flat out weird with no cats or anything.

I had 40 deltas on my 95 and there was no crossover. It didn't sound choppy at all. was nice and even. When you think that sound travels at 340.29 meters per second and most exhaust setups are around 3 meters long. bending one side over and back might add a fraction of a meter. Ultimately, the difference in when the sound pulses reach the end of the pipe is so small, you can't really tell.

Do you think the "exhaust guy" definately put on flowmasters?

They are flowmaster, looked up part number and its just a standard Flow 40 single in offset out. 2 chamber i guess.

Thrush welded mufflers sound better than flows IMO and that's what i told him to get, they'd be cheaper too

I don't know if it matters, but mine were just before the rear axle. I could see it being more or less tinny based on where the muffler was, but as for the cackle, not to sure. Mine did have a cackle when I would engine brake, but I thought it was kinda cool

Running no crossover or and H or an X all sounds different. I think an H sounds the best. Its more deep and mellow sounding. X is more raspy, and no crossover just sounds rougher or not as smooth. It does make a difference.

Are you sure they are not knock off mufflers? There is a muffler class flow pro or something like that that looks almost identicle. Nevermind, I just saw that you verified the part number.

By the way Slowmaster does not sound good, it sounds hollow and drones. Magnaflow for the win.

I know I hate flowmaster for the most part, their cat back setups sound good but they all have that crappy tinny hollow sound. Magnaflow and cherry bomb vortex ftw.

One of the things you might want to look at if you want true duals and an X crossing is
a DynaMax Ultra-flo X. It is a straight thru muffler with dual inlets and outlets that cross
in an x with in the muffler. I installed one on my 1981 F100 351 2wd which has the same
issue with the gas tank location. The truck has long tube headers and the pipes do both go down the right side. The muffler fits well and sounds good and I could tell a
slight increase in performance. Future tuning might enhance the performance.

To be honest with you, I am running just the cat on my 94 F250 with the 5.8 So far I am pretty happy with the set up, it comes off the cat with 3 inch pipe, splits into two pipes at 2.5 inch, and it runs down the passenger side, then splits and comes out at a 45 degree angle behind each tire. I love the way the truck sounds, cruising on the highway you cant even hear it in the cab, but when I get into it it sounds pretty awesome. I have gotten a lot of compliments on this set up, and I am gonna keep it this way. I don't see the point of running mufflers, they will just rust out anyway.

Is anyone else running this set up on their truck??

I knew a guy that did something similar on his 5.3L gmc. I actually really liked the way it sounded. Nice and deep but not obnoxious or overpowering.

I have known quite a few people that straight piped it after the cats. It sounds really good that way.

Yea the old 302's have that 2nd cat that is like 2.25", hook any kind of muffler to the back of that and you'll hear dead silence when it starts. Straight pipe off stock cat FTW.

true duals and after cat o2 sensors

I have been reading this thread. I have a 1996 f150 4x4 EB addition. It has the 5.8l Windsor engine. I tow lawn equipment with 98% of the time. It has 149,000 miles on it and has PLENTY of power. About a year or so ago I had a AP torpedo pack(glasspack style) muffler SI/DO installed. I wish I had gone with a FM. This muffler has a SLIGHT rumble but get 100 ft. away and you can't hear it AT ALL. Not only that, it's much louder in the cab than on the outside and I HATE IT.

I have been looking into different mufflers and exhaust configurations and being that my truck has 2 INLINE CATS, the best muffler I can say would give the sound I want WITHOUT being too loud is either the FM 30 or 10. With 2 cats, the FM original 40 wouldn't be as loud as what I have now. I absolutely will not go with straight pipes. Blats too much. My question is this. Is it possible to split the cats putting one on each side as long as I install an additional 02 sensor on the left bank(driver side) behind the cat? With this year truck I can't take the cat/cats off because it wouldn't pass the emissions inspection. ANY SUGGESTIONS?????
