I have an 04 F250 SD and when shifting from park to drive I literally have to stand or apply full pressure on the brake pedal to go from park to drive. When I say full pressure I mean I am literally using both feet full out strength on the pedal to depress it enough to shift. Anyone have same issue before? What was the problem and how did you fix it.
I'm assuming by what you wrote that it takes that much brake pressure to get the shift interlock to release to let it out of park?
If that is the case, I'd figure that the Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch is bad. I'd guess your brake lights aren't working all that well either.
It is located on the brake pedal arm where the arm meets the rod going into the master cylinder. It has 5 wires going to it. It's kind of a pain to get up there to it, put it's pretty easy to remove and replace. Just one snap pin, pull it off, put the new one in and put the pin back.
It's not an expensive part. You should be able to get one from the dealer.
