If you want low mpg, you shouldn't drive a truck. Buy a Renault Twingo... (I had one once, did 43 mpg)
Stop complaining about the gas price, here in the netherlands I pay $5.58 per gallon and I get about 10 mpg, and I'm not complaining, It's fun to drive a Ford truck...
I had the same problem when I bought my 2000. I averaged 10 to 11 mpg, now I'm up around 13.5 to 13.8, this is around town driving. Five recommendations: 1.) Experiment with fuel brands. My truck does better with Chevron, really dislikes Exxon. 2.) K&N air filter. This helped me by about .5 mpg. 3.)Good synthetic motor oil. I run Mobil 1 5W30. 4.) Run your tire pressure up, this is a biggie. Lots of discussion on this one. This will depend on tire type, load, weather conditions, etc. Do a search in the Super Duty Heavy Duty forum. 5.) Big dog in right seat that bites driver when he pushes right foot down to fast, or too far. . Remember these truck are Heavy ! Mine weights 6,620 pounds. They also have aerodynamic qualties of a brick!
Don't try to accelerate up to speed in 2 seconds. Of course it's hard to lay off the gas with all the power under the hood, but it will help with the mileage a little bit.

The air raid intake made the biggest help on mpg for me. The superchip did the worst for the money. The flowmasters I think I brake even on or just barely pay for themselves.
