I have a 2000 F-150 (a Canadian truck) daytime running light are law in Ontario since about 98 model year, I had always assumed my truck had had them, but now I find out this is not the case, could it be that the bulbs are partally burnt out and therefore not coming on during daylight when I start the vehicle?
Lamps dont partially burn out, they may indeed dim over time/use,but they either work or not.IF youre sure your truck is supposed to nave DRL,s then there is a problem in the circuit that is supposed to control them,or perhaps just a damaged connection.
I have DRL's on my truck, the switch inside the truck has 4 positions - far left is A - auto lights- when you start the truck your lights will automatically come on and go off when you turn the truck off, next position is off, next is P- parking lights, 4th position is far right is on. There is also a relay a little behind the driver side headlight that makes the DRL's work. I unplugged mine because I didn't like my lights to be on all the time, now they only come on when I turn them on. Check to see what position your switch is in, it must be all the way to the left A position, also check to see if your relay is plugged in. Your lights will still work in the on position if the relay is unplugged, but they will not come on automatically.
my girlfriend's dad has a 98 extended cab with what i think are drls but im not sure. the switch is a regular 3 position switch but no mater if it is on or off, when you start the truck the headlights come on. why would it do this? its only the headlights too not the park or tail lights. if you want to park and have the lights off when the truck is running (he says) you have to push the parking break in one notch. is this odd, or is there a reason for this?
here is some more info on the truck if it helps. it is the 4.6, 4x4, has the 155 mm bolt patern, and does NOT have a tachometer. it has ac and power mirrors, and says xlt on the side. could it be that this truck is one of those end of the model year trucks and they just built it with the parts they had??
your lights go out when your park break is pushed in just as a reminder kind of deal. I'm guessing jmegs' truck has just had the DRL fuse removed. look in your owners manual find the fuse location and check it out.
I am having the same issue with my DRL. They always worked up until a year or two ago. Because they are now mandatory for MVI (motor vehicle inspection) in Nova Scotia, I need to fix them. Apparently there is a relay somewhere that controls them. To this point I have had no luck in tracking that down, though admittedly I haven't looked very hard, was hoping to find help here. I've checked the fuse, which is fine and also runs the factory fog lights.
A little background on the DRL. Here in Canada, DRL are mandatory and come on as soon as the vehicle is started. They are dimmer than even regular low beams. The idea behind them is to make it easier to spot oncoming traffic any time of day or night. Probably a good idea except that too many people forget to turn their real headlights on when it gets dark and as a result end up driving around without any taillights.
If your looking for the relay it is about 2 feet behind the drivers side headlight, just follow the wires from the bulb. At least that is where it's at on my truck. It is in a position that it could become disconnected pretty easy or get gunked up.
