I changed my ball joints on my 86 f150 yesterday. Took it to get it aligned and found out they were bad. Just changed them 6 months ago and they were bad. But I changed them and had problems with the camber adjuster sleave and it sticks up about a quater inch. I know there are different ones for different degrees of adjustment. Are the diamaters of the of the openings of the adjuster?
If your truck is stock height then the factory adjusters should be fine. They should stick up a little bit past the top of the housing. But I'm not 100% sure I understand what you're asking.
What brand did you use the first time you changed them?
OK I got some pics of what I am talking about so maybe it will help.
The brand of ball joint I got is Oreilly Auto Parts Master Pro line. They are pretty decent parts from what I have heard.
But what I was wondering is on the camber adjusters are there different adjusters that taper different that would allow them to totally seat on the knuckle? My previous ball joints allowed the adjuster to seat all the way down on the knuckle. They are the same joints thats what I don't understand. The truck drives and handles just fine but just doesn't look right to me. Just want to see if it is right or wrong. I am taking it to get aligned tomorrow so Im sure I will find out if it is right or wrong but trying to figure it out before I drive the 30 miles to the tire shop again and waste my time and their time if its not right.
