This much I can tell you. I work at the Kentucky Truck Plant where the Excursions were built. Presently, we build the super duty trucks, and the Expedition/Expedition EL/Navigator. We haven't heard a word about a new Excursion. If one was to be built, we would build it, as we are the only plant in north america that builds on the 3/4 or one ton chassis. The only good thing I am hearing is the possibility of a diesel in the Expy sometime soon.....
Would it be possible for you to ask the powers at be if there are any plans? Maybe you can even show them our forum here. We need the Excursion to be brought back or we need ford to build another superduty SUV. See the issue is, many of us are driving these excursions and love them. Most of us purchased them because of the towing capacity and size. However they are begining to rot away around us. There are many of us that would love to purchase another one, as I would. I am going to be looking to replace my 2000 excursion in the next 2 years. I will need a vehicle that can pull 10,000 lbs, and frankly a pick up truck is just not what I want. SO because ford is not producing a heavy duty suv, I will be forced with many other X owners to purchase a suburban. Right now the suburban out pulls the expy. The Expy is not a heavy duty tow vehicle and would never be able to pull my 40 ft scarab. I really love ford. I really detest the idea of buying GM. But I can only keep my X on the road for so much longer.
I have asked, and used the same argument you proposed. I think that what we are going to eventually up with is a diesel Expy. Rumors I am hearing is that eventually the F250 will be put on the F150 platform, but with the 3/4 ton suspension. I imagine when that happens, a diesel will be put into the F150 and Expy. I seriously doubt they will bring back the Excursion. Fact is, there IS a market out there for one, but I am afraid the market isn't large enough for Ford to make a profit on them.

F200?
The diesel in the Expy will be a BIG seller. Especially the Expy EL. It won't be an excursion but a lot of folks will trade in their Ex's for one.
As long as it will tow 10,000 lbs! Thats what I need. My 42ft Scarab is topping the tow capacity of the x as it is. How ever I refuse to by a wasteful pick up truck. Id never use the bed. Its useless to me. How long is the expedition EX comparing to our beloved excursions? I am definately curious about this concept.... It may just keep me from going to Government Motors...
The Expedition EL is already in production, has been for a few years. Now the diesel? Like I said, its only a rumor I've been hearing at work. Payload and towing capacity? I haven't a clue. It is as big as a suburban. Drivetrain and towing? I don't have a clue. I've never looked at them to see.

Not this guy. Unless the Expy EL has the same/longer wheel base as the Ex, there's no way I'm gonna get one. You can get by w/a gas engine to get things moving, but for my money there's nothing like wheel-base for towing security/saftey.
