OK, well, my son had caved in my obviously weakened dash, and I had to get a new one, I was luck enough to find one in the same color as the previous, but now I'm back to square one on installing my stereo, which was stolen while sitting in my truck for 10 minutes yesterday.
How did you install your aftermarket stereo to make it look like it was MEANT to be there? the guy before me, never put the effort in, he just, SLAMMED it in there, and I am ALL about things "Fitting"
Please, post pics, describe your method(s) of how you did it, I'm going to be posting up a picture detailed thread as soon as I'm done with my center speaker project, as we all know there's a 4"x6" speaker in the aft dash, I'm installing one in the fore dash in line with the upper assembly so I can have a better experience with my music.
I have the in cab tank and a low sitting bench, so until I can install captains chairs I'm not able to get a sub in there, and I don't think I will ever be doing that, the Cerwin Vega's I have, with the Boston Acoustics 4x6 speakers will satisfy me.
I would take your time and do it right the first time! Sounds like that is your plan. I spent a great deal of time picking out the radio and found a "Custom Autosound" model that fits well, but a little big in the back so it fits just barely! No cutting of the dash...a must. And this is a truck, so I replaced the door speakers in their original spots (No cutting here either) and it is powerful enough for me without any bass box or amplifier. Could spend a fortune on a sound system if that is what you wanted to do. Last suggestion, the metal plates that attach in front of the dash with two screws can be found. Buy an extra in case you decide to do some cutting. That way you can put it back to original if you change your mind. Good luck!
I really wish my dash was that clean......and that my truck was a ranger, i have a custom, meaning STRIPPED.
but she works fine for me to be happy.
I'm thinking more along the lines of a newer stereo.
that is a nice one man......but before mine was stolen, I was running a 4ch Cerwin Vega Amp, hidden in the truck where you'll never see it, took me an hour to mount it, it'll take someone who knows where it is longer.
Neighbor kid who helped me pull the dash saw it and said he was wondering where all that power came from in my system.
yours is just beautiful tho man......absolutely gorgeous.
but the the vents will also be hi/lo/off, and blow on the floor and windshield and they will be controlled via a rocker switch. so my truck will be rather utilitarian when i get done. because of this, it opens the place up where the climate controls would normally be for this tall head-unit.
A couple of other options. You can install in the glove box or you can get a Secret Audio that you can install the unit anywhere in the vehicle. You can either use a remote head which will fit just about anywhere or use with out the remote head, using only the remote control.
Trey, that 2X Din deck SCREAMS steal me.
it's still wicked sweet.
I just picked up a Kenwood KDC-HD942U for the truck, should be AWESOME
lol. you have to take into account that i live in the middle of nowhere, where i know everybody. and everybody knows that if you steal my crap, im bringin hell to your doorstep. besides that, the truck thatd be goin in would get locked up at night, and pretty much whenever it wasnt bein drivin. i have big plans for the ol 78...

That dash is sweet, and I think that is the same unit I was looking to put in my dent here with in the next few months. I want to keep the old school look, but it has plenty of options which I like!
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! wyo, buddy, IM jealous of YOUR interior. yes, i am. my dash is pretty much destroyed in my 76 (though the metal is still strait), the seat is... i wont even go there... my floorboards are bare so you can see all the silver dollar sized holes, i have no shift boots, no headliner, a funky little 13 inch steerin wheel, and spaghetti wirin hangin out from under the dash...
i have a 15in wheel going into it, got it from the junker brand new, $10, was just sitting in another old ford with the adapter kit......i can't stand the huge wheel.
