Hello,
I have a 2000 4X4 limited, V10, and my 4X4 wont engage at all. When I turn the switch on the dash the 4X4 light does not light up and I get no engagement at the front wheels. I checked the vacuum lines and they are still connected and appear to be in good condition. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Could this be a bad relay somewhere?
Just because the vacuum lines are connected and are in good shape doesnt mean that you dont have a leak somewhere. I Had the same issue, and it ended up being a o-ring issue and not the hoses all together. There is a few good write ups on how to narrow down where the vacuum leak is.....Also is your vacuum pump turning on? could be bad vacuum pump, or your swtich to engage it (ESOF) could be bad. I would start with doing the vacuum leak test as these are a larger percentage of problems for these vehicles.
Also to rule out ESOF, turn the hubs to manual and then try and engage it....if that works, then its definately vacuum or hub related.
If you are also having problems with your heat distribution then you probably have a vacuum leak somewhere. Does your heat distribution change by itself from the floor to defrost? Or visa versa? If so, you have a vacuum problem. And, yes, it will effect your ESOF.
