Hey everyone. My problem is in ct the weather has been near below zero tempatures these past couple weeks and in these tempatures my truck doesnt run as hot as it usally does (190 degrees) so the heat doesnt get very hot. Have any of you guys run into this problem? Do any of you guys have any tips on how to make my truck run hotter at these really cold tempatures? Thank you for your time.
Or if you are cheap, get some cardboard and block off the airflow to part of your radiator. I would not block it all off. If you look at the big rigs, you will see a lot of them have covers that across the grill in the winter time, typically covering about 60-75% of the grill opening.
I have seen others "engineer" a piece of cardboard to serve the same purpose. I guess it depends on if you drive a beater or your truck is dialed in.
Guys... What you are talking about has a proper name! It is called a "Ford Thermostat".
I usually slip a piece of cardboard in between the radiator and the AC condenser. This will increase your fan noise somewhat because of the uneven loading on the fan blades.
Put a piece of cardboard over half of a box fan and listen to the noise it makes.
If you want to minimize that get a piece of cardboard that covers the entire radiator and cut a hole in the center...
Winterfronts are a canvas cover that has snaps on it to connect to snaps you mount on your grill support etc. You can fold them back to vary the amount of air that gets in. The advantage is that it is far enough in front of the radiator so that you don't get the fan noise.
OOOOoooh... A "Ford thermostat". Thats what its called. I just remember how hard it was to keep the stinkin' thing running while you raced out there and tried to get the cardboard to stick to the radiator b4 it shut off.
