I am having a major oil pressure problem with my lifted 1990 ford f150 4x4 with a 5.0 efi. when the truck starts the oil pressure gaudge reads good oil pressure but as soon as the motor realy warms up the oil pressure will drop to 0 then bounce around sometimes staying at good for a few mins then dropping back to 0. When this happens the check engine light and the red engine light will flicker on . The whole time though the motor sounds great and runs smooth. the oil pressure sending unit was replaced with a new one. any ideas ? thanks
Mechanical pressure gauge. Buy one or rent one, put it in place of the pressure sender and get an actual reading of what's going on.
In 1990, the gauge is nothing more than a glorified idiot light, reading on (anywhere near halfway) over 6psi, or off (pegged on the L) when under 6psi. The senders aren't particularly reliable, and neither is the gauge wiring, especially under the hood.
These trucks often suffer from blocked oil pickup screens in the oil pan. If a mechanical gauge shows that your pressure is indeed low, that's a good place to start.
