Question Another Noob question(s)...

hey guys and gals...
again im asking questions about the diesel...i have a 2000 f250 7.3.
anyway...here are a few things/questions that have come up...
1. last nite i was installing new sway bar bushings and found that my carrier bearing(dont know if you guys call it that...a rubber piece with a bearing that holds up the middle of the drive shaft) seems loose. i could push it up and down...a little maybe like 1/8 inch or less. is that exceptable or does it need replaced? also how hard is the replacement?
2. when drive the 6 spd and you push in the clutch, should the rpms go right to idle speed? in other gasser vehicles, there was a sensor that wouldnt let the rpms drop fast when the clutch was pushed. do these trucks have that or am i right with how it is shifting. just seems weird that it goes to like 500 than back up to 1200/1500...

any help would be appreciated...thanks again for all the info

Hey Chris. The rubber on the bearing is loose on it. That is normal. But you could do this to have it not make noise. LINK

I don't know about the hand shaker.

Rick has ya going on the carrier and greasing the slip joint....BE SURE to chock the wheels before you drop that drive shaft. We had an accident on here recently and it could have been fatal.
No help with the hand shaker either.

yeah...when i push in the clutch, the truck drops to idle range. is there a sensor or something that controls that? it makes it hard to shift, because you push in the clutchs and the r's drop and shift let out the clutch and they are back up to 1500 or so. makes it really hard to stay smooth.

are you shifting up or down? If your downshifting ( may have it backwards) from 2nd to 3rd, you should be able to shift quick enough to catch it before its get to idle. On the upshifts ( 3rd to 2nd). You should have to increase the engine speed to match gear speed to be smooth. If your downshifting, and take too long to shift, you may have to raise the engine speed for a smooth shift.

The smoke at start up could be you have a bad glow plug or your GPR is going out. I would test the GPR first.

When i take my truck out of gear the rpms drop below idle. there was a thread about this a long time ago and we decided it happens on most trucks and is not a problem.
