problem...high idle, then rough idle, problems shifting
When i parked my bronc last night, it ran fine. got up this morning and pow, its acting up. i start it up and it will hunt for idle. then when i put it in gear and drive down the road, it acts like it doesn't want to shift. it gets close to 3000 before it shifts then it acts like i put the cruise on... the speed will keep climbing without me touching the throttle... i desperately need help..thanks, larry

Wow, sounds like you might have a vacuum leak. I'd check your hoses and make sure you haven't got a loose hose or popped a cap off someplace. With both your idle and tranny acting up it might be back behind your carb, at the main vacuum port. Also, check to make sure the egr is still hooked up while back there.
Good luck!

Pull the codes: http://www.broncodata.com/tech/codes.htm
What engine & transmission do you have? If you don't know, post the 8th digit of the VIN and the AXLE code from the door jamb sticker. The engine size is in the fine print of the emissions sticker on the core support/air filter/hood, and the location of the O/D kill will help ID the trans.

I figured it was a vacuum leak but I haven't been able to find anything to this point.... Is there a vacuum line that runs to the tranny. I'm not sure on the model tranny but I do know its a 5.0 with a AOD of some type, the O/D is on the column shifter. its a 93 so it wouldn't have a carb as suggested but thanks for the input on that one... I'm going to pull codes tonight when I get home and see if anything shows. I just don't get it......its got me puzzled.... thanks, Larry

The "AOD" is a particular transmission, and it's a cable-kickdown type. The C-series transmissions use a vacuum kickdown, and if you have one, it's a C-6, but I don't think they were used that late, and they don't have OD. The most common auto in the 90s is the E4OD, followed closesly by the 4R70W (the electronic truck version of the AOD), both of which have an "O/D OFF" button on the end of the shift stalk. The AOD has OD ("D" in a white background) and D positions in the shift indicator.
Post the TRANS code from your door sticker if you're not sure.

I will definitely post it. I assume its an E4OD but I'm not positive. I'm going to run some tests on it today. I'm going to check the TPS, ACT, and MAP sensors in particular. It actually cleared up and ran fine for a day then yesterday it was back to its old self.... I'm thinking it may just be a TPS or something like that because I turned the A/C on and it started its craziness again.

Well, I found out that it was just the TPS. I replaced it, adjusted it and it runs like a new car now. I was surprised how much havoc one little sensor can have on the rest of the vehicle....Larry
