hello to all i'm fairly new here. usally find what info i need by search.
so i recently bought an 2005 F350 4x4 crew cab srw. 6.0 ihc power
truck runs good don't know much about diesels but want to learn.
any way my problem is kinda weird, i think. truck is a standard sor i use the parking brake a lot. the brake holds fine. but i have noticed some times the pedal will go to the floor almost before it holds good. and other times it only moves an inch or so before holding. WTF? is there a way to adjust the pedal assembly. the brakes are good just looked them over two day ago while getting new tires.
also i still need to try and search but what are you guys doing for ipod docks and such for oem radio? thanks
You said you looked the brakes over when you got new tires, those are your normal stopping brakes, the parking brakes are actually under the rear hub they are drum style breaks, you may have some axle grease leaking onto the pads from a worn seal, the only way to tell is to remove the hub and look. You can adjust the parking brake from and inspection hole behind each rear hub it is towards the bottom and has a rectangluar rubber seal on it, just use a brake spoon or screw driver the make the adjustment.
I have the same problem with my parking brake...one time I can push the pedal to the floor and the brake does not hold the truck, if I release it and reapply the brake then it usually works fine just have to push it a little more than half way down. it's hit and miss with mine...but would love to find a fix!
FYI: if you put your problem in the subject line of your post you will get more help and sooner.
jlmotox, thats it. same thing. just not good at explaining it. i'm not stupid i know cars and all. was just wondering if it was a common problem and maybe get a jump on the fix. guess i'll just have to trouble shoot it.
Those parking brake shoes tend to delaminate because they get wet and don't get used often enough to dry them out. I never used the parking brake when I owned my Expedition, but every year I had to replace the shoes to pass PA state inspection.
There has got to be a better way to have a parking brake on a disk setup.
Mine does the exact same thing. Its like there is a clutch mechanism on the parking brake pedal that slips.
Very annoying and unsafe when you have a load on.
Any ideas????????????
All you have to do is make sure the brake shoes that are behind the rotor are adjusted out so there is a slight drag, just like adjusting rear brake shoes, make sure you adjust the front cable so there is no slack(the cable that comes from ebrake pedal, also make sure the ratching device is working properly,if it is slipping you won't have the same pedal height everytime, also make the rear shoes are in good shape and not soaked with differential oil or broken hold down pins or return springs.
