I have an '03 EB on order and after reading this message board, I may want to change my opinion on extended warranty plans. I always thought you were better off investing the $1000 plus money and covering any future repairs with the investment. What do you think? Which plan would you recommend, if any? This is my first Ford order ever after only ordering GM (and one Mazda)--I have never been burned before and take my cars to between 75k and 100k miles. Even with all the improvements to the '03, I am wondering. No doubt, the '03 is the best SUV in that size based on overall design and features. Reliability is apparently another matter.
With costs of repairs the way they are you'll sleep better at night.
I paid a negotiated $1150 for the top Ford 6/72 warranty on a $41K list truck and it's piece of mind.
I would hope all the problems of earlier Expy's are now taken care of and your 2003 is ok.
Many don't like the extended warranty's.
I just feel better having one especially when the cost of one is $1150 on $36.5K what I paid for the truck.
Just my .02
Because selling a warranty at the vehicle sale is a leverage point for the buyer . . . the dealer is willing to 'deal' on the price of the warranty to move a vehicle, where as if you purchase one after the fact you most likely will pay full cost - no reason for the seller of the policy to bargain. I got a 100k/10y warranty that cost >$1400 for $500 at the stealership when I bought my X.
There's no way of knowing whether you actually paid $500 for that warranty. They simply could have padded the rest into the price you paid for the vehicle. They could sell you the warranty for $1.00 and you'd pay $1399.00 more for the car.

Well, I agree to an extent. But we pick them apart on every car we buy - I mean bad too, where they almost wish they hadn't started dealing. When I have a set amount for my trade in and a known sell price, dealing at that point is pretty cut and clear. Go to the bottom line and figure out what they did. They are NO smarter than you and I guarrantee you can catch just about anything they throw at you. Helps to have a friend or two who sells vehicles too.
