Ok my head hurts trying to figuar this out. I put my starter on my old 6.9 into a low voltage situation and the solonoid locked up on it so it would run the starter even after the key was turned back to off.. No problem replaced the solonoid with a brand shiney new one... No change still sticks after the key is turned off. Disconected the main lead to the starter and put a test light on it turned the key numerous times and the light functioned normaly. I took the starter down to a local auto shop and the starter tested good... so if the solonoid is new the system is good to the fender solonoid and the starter tested good what could it possibly be??
Two solenoids on the 6.9, which one did you replace?
The fender mounted solenoid, power to one of the big terminals, probably has several other wires on it as well.
The other large terminal, one wire, probably black, that runs down to the starter mounted solenoid.
That terminal should only have power when you turn the key to start.
Down on the starter end, are you sure that black trigger wire is not touching the battery cable connector?
I actualy changed both solonoids they were cheap so I said why not.. There is no wires touching I looked into that I also put a test light on the main power wire to the starter solonoid without it being connected to the starter when I cycled the starter and watched the light from the cab as I turned the starter on and off the light went on and off flawlessly.. With the starter testing good and my test passing on the rest of the system I am compleatly stumped... I am going to barrow a starter off a friends 6 9 soon to see if it may be that but I really doubt its the motor how could it be??
