i want to put a set of axles from a 87 1ton to my 97 f250. the 1tons were in a truck with a c-6 auto and my 97 has a zf5. would i have to change gears?how would the truck react to them. thanks guys
One problem, the 87 speedo was driven off the tranny or transfer case, mechanical speedo.
The 97 speedo is driven off the rear axle, electronic speedo.
Other than that, everything else is a bolt in swap.
Something else to consider, the rear axle in an F250 is exactly the same axle you would find in an F 350.
So other than a ratio change, swapping rear axles is a side step, not an upgrade.
SRW to DRW duallie axle would be the exception to that statement.
Front axles, IFS 44 or 50 under the 250 and monobeam 60 under the 350, so that would be an upgrade.
Ratio in the 87 is probably either a 4.10 or 3.55.
In the 97, 4.10, 3.73 or 3.55.
