Recently in 20 deg. weather, I have found it necessary to take off without letting engine warm up enough. Maybe a minute. At about 40 to 45 mph it started to surge. Never had done this before with 2 or 3 minute warm ups.
After a couple of miles it stops. Is this considered normal, or do I need to have something looked at.
Thanks to all who reply. Jim
#1 2500 miles on the oil and Filter.
#2 Could be fuel filter.
#3 No check engine light. The surging came in at around 40 miles per hour, and lasted about a minute or two before going to steady rpm. I haven't noticed anything with my foot off the throttle.
I have noticed a slight surge for a few seconds when I start the engine cold and it then quickly smooths out. It will idle up to 1000 rpm while sitting and warming up. If I touch the brake it will idle back down to 6 or 700 rpm. Thanks guys Jim
Jim in colder conditions the truck will idle at 1000rpm to warm itself up. so no worries there mine does that her in AZ if it gets chilly enuff. when you are aproaching the 40 mph mark are you holding the accelerator pedal very lightly is that when the surging occurs? The reason I ask this is because I have the same problems at 40-45 mph. If I speed up the surge will sieze and it will run fine. I spoke with John Wood of John Wood automotive in CA about this problem thinking it could be the t/c. He said look towards the throttle pedal it could have a dead spot on the TPS. I would try to find someone with a AE plug it in and drive it alil and see if you got any codes! Plz keep us posted with any results, for you are not the only one on this forum having this problem it seems a few of us are in the same predicament as yourself.
