What Now

Well guys you were right about my fuel pump having lost it's prime. It took a while, because of bad weather, but I finally got it started. In the process I managed to run down the batteries, I think that they were already low from sitting up, so I charged the batteries, got the truck started & then I bought a battery maintainer. It's a trickle charger that puts out 1 or 2 amps, my question is this. The trickle charger can be pluged into the cigarette lighter or with clamps directly onto the battery. If I hook it up directly to the battery then I will need 2, one for each battery, but if I plug into cigarette lighter will it charge both batteries? Will this damage my altenator or any other part of electrical system?

you can connect it directly to one battery and it will charge both, the batteryies have a full time parallel connection to each other. There should be no ill effects to the electrical system

What he said. Additionally some trucks only have power to the cig lighter when the key is in and ignition is turned to either "run" or "acc", so that would be an undesirable situation.
