hey i need some help here from u guys. when i have my truck in park or neutral, and rev it up to about 3,ooo, my belts start making this horrible squeek. i just had new belts put on it last july, can u guys help me out?
Belts need to be tightened after they have run in a while. If they have been squealing too long they may be glazed and will need to be replaced. The pulleys may need to be "resurfaced" with a littlle fine grit sandpaper to make the new belts seat properly. Always re-tighten your belts after initial break in.
Mike,
An old shadetree trick my Dad taught me was to rub bar soap on the fanbelts (while the engine is OFF ! ! ).
Cheap stuff is fine, unless you want lilac scented belts.
It has worked for me, but only as an aid to properly tensioned belts.
Take care,
Mike (Another One)
Really, tighten up the belts to fix the problem. If they are glazed they might be ruined. Avoid the belt dressing sprays. I've seen them cause a knocking sound that sound just like a main bearing.
