Leaf Spring Replacement
Leaf Spring Replacement
I have a leaf spring that is cracked at where it connects to the truck so I need to replace it. The truck has a 4 inch lift.
1) Do I have to replace the springs with lifted leaf springs or does the lift come from somewhere else? (4 inch rough country lift)
2) Do I have to replace both springs? They are supposedly only 2 years old.

Short version:
1. Yes.
2. Yes.
Long version:
1. Yes. To keep the lift you need to replace lift springs with lift springs.
2. Yes. Springs are dynamic and change (sag) with use. If you replace only one side you will likely end up with a lopsided lift. I would follow up with RC to see if the springs can be replaced under warranty.

1) For the RC lift it should just be a helper spring on the bottom of the pack (poor design). How does the truck ride empty, like a kidney killing lumber truck? Look for a short and thick bottom leaf (that looks out of place) to find out if the lift is from the arch of the springs or just a stiff helper/lifter.
I had a RC 6" lift in my truck 7 years ago and they sent helper leafs to lift the rear. I pulled them out after about 500 miles and made my own rear lift. After about 1-1/2 years I pulled the front out and put in my SJ lift.
2) yeah you should replace both as CMCOLFAX stated, but you could get away with just changing the leaf that is broke and leave the other aged leafs in there. I've done that before and it reduces the chance of a saggy left or right side.
