My Dad is a little **** about cold startup. He bought a new 2010 F150, and promptly parked it in his garage. They then went on vacation to Arizona, and will be due back in about a week. One of the guys he talked to said that he thought that there was some sort of low oil pressure switch on the F-150 (5.4L) that held spark somehow to let the truck build some oil pressure/flow before starting.
Is there something like that on his truck? He wants to roll some oil before starting it up after sitting for 2 months.
I always just unhooked a DIS or whatever to let the engine turn over without firing on my older vehicles, but I don't know what his truck has.
If not, what can he unhook to turn over without starting?
What the "friend" is probably thinking of is the silicon anti-drainback valve in the oil filter. It helps keep oil in the motor. Tell your father to get over it, crank the truck, and enjoy it.
Stormsearch has the answer, and it's the easiest solution. Also, pushing the pedal to the floor prevents the motor from starting prematurely after oil and filter changes.
That's what he was talking about, and he did the pedal push- all was well, he's on the way to Kentucky right now on a spontaneous road trip with his truck.
