97 2.3 5spd, not driven nicely.......21 mpg city/hwy avg. winter/ 24 mpg city/hwy avg. summer, no a/c. On the rare occasion I have an "all highway" tank, 30 mpg if you keep your foot out of it. almost 216k on the odo.

Pretty good mileage with basic fuel, exhaust, and electronics maintenance.
I used to own the same basic ranger I have now... 2.3 i4, manual transmission, 1996, and I believe I measured it at 24 MPG. Of course, that was out in the boon docks. Now I live in the city, and my pre-cat oxygen sensor is non-functional at the moment.
Really can't tell you the odometer reading at the moment because... ah... it doesn't work, Mrs. Public Notary.
I know it had 102K miles on it January of last year, though, according to the title...

I have the 3.slow V6. It barely gets 20 mpg highway. It does have 4.10 gears which makes it run 3000 rpm at 75 mph. Its a great truck except for the mileage. I'd got a 4.0 if I'd known about the 3.0 fuel economy. It would have some power. The 3.0 is weak.

You have not experienced slow until you try to climb a grade in the wind in a 2.3, it's a physics lesson.

My 2002 4 cyl with manual trans got a measured 29 mpg when I filled it up this week. That was for the entire tank, 290 miles on 10 gallons. It's has a 3.73 rear and won't pull hills in 5th gear.
