As the pickups? and if so is it worse than in a truck? thinkin about diving into a 6.0 ex, but not if its a nightmare too.

They are the same 6.0l engines. If there is a particular year engine you want to avoid, check the sticker on the valve covers of the vehicles you're interested in.

(Plugging in the broken record player)

The 6.0L is not a grenade like everyone thinks it is. They have a couple issues...but just like the 6.4L that followed it 99% of the issues are the EPA mandated crap. (unplugging the record player now)

With that said you've got a crap shoot to deal with on the X...the '03 have the better of the three with the older "square" EGR cooler but had injector issues at first; I doubt there's an '03 out there with it's original injectors. The '04 (depending on build date) has the better designed injector, but the EGR has been known to have more issues compared to the '03...then there's the '05. The '05 have/had an updated HPOP on which the STC was a known weak point along with the EGR cooler. Personally I'd go after a '05 and just deal with the STC issue...because the '05 had the "Tow Command" system from Ford. Other than the Tow Command, I don't think there is any other difference between the three years of the 6.0L powered Excursions. I'm sure you know to do the Oasis before you sign on the line just to cover your bumper.

The EGR cooler in my 03 lasted 98K miles, still has 7 original injectors. I think I have a couple acting up though.

If you are going for a 2005 6.0L X, get one built after 1/2005. It will then have the MY 2005 engine. Mine has 151,000 miles on it and I just had my 1st issue, a failed Turbo.
