transmission trouble

i have a 1996 f150 302 auto and i can be going down the road it feels like it is trying to down shift but then doesnt when you are just cruising. if you are taking off kinda fast it doesnt do it and it doesnt do it when it is cold, just when it is warm. i dont think it is slipping but what could be wrong

also my gas gauge on the front tank works fine til it gets down to half a tank then it is like it it stuck at half until i fill it up and the gauge works fine for the back tank

Possible there is some build-up? Have you tried putting some cleaner in?
