Well i talked to the guy putting the new bosch fuel pump assembly in and he told me the hot wire coating on the old pump had melted (not the wire) does this sound like the pump was pulling to many amps? i wonder why the fuse didn't blow if it was. any of you have any input would be helpful. thanks in advance.
It's possible it was pulling more power than expected as the pump aged. The current draw could still be less than what the fuse is rated for but the coating has 8 years on it and may not have been up to the task. Do you run your tank really low before filling up? This can cause the pump to run hotter and draw more power to run. The in tank pumps are cooled by the fuel around them - just something to think about with that new pump installed.
Yes i'am one of the one's that will put 20 here and 20 there untill it's time for a big trip and then fill up. that wont be the case now. still don't know if this solved the problem, the guy that put it in is going to keep it untill lunch today and drive it through out the morning to see if it dies with him, the day before he put the new one in he let it run for about a hour and it didn't offer to cut off but who know's. the last time i checked pressure i got 5lbs with key on and 30 lbs with engine running and it died on me 3 times. i sure hope the new pump solves the problem thanks for help and info from everybody.
5 lbs. w/ key on is no good. It should be around 25 at least. That tells me it's your pump for sure. BTW, I just changed mine out a few months ago. It would hold good pressure at idle, but not at high volume. My gauge was broke too, so I replaced the module.
