I am trying to find out what the code on my front axel is telling me. It reads 3.54(I all ready have that part figured out) then it goes on with D3TA-KA. The next line says 603368-3.
I know that the axel is a dana 44 and has power steering. Factory I don't know.
This is from the service CD (the picture is attached):
Ford Axle Identification Tag
The plant code for an axle denotes a particular design and specific ratio, and if it is a conventional or limited slip type. In addition, the plant code will not change as long as that particular axle assembly never undergoes an external design change. If, however, an internal design change takes place during the production life of the axle and that internal change affects service parts interchangeability, a dash and numerical suffix will be added to the plant code.
Note that plant codes in the illustrations are identical, but the tag below shows a numeric suffix. This means that as an assembly both axles are interchangeable; however, internally they are different. Therefore, each would require different internal service parts at service time.
I guess I should ask my question a different way. the facts I have already is that it is a dana 44 with 3.54 gear ratio. What are the rest of the numbers telling me? Is it supposed to be a limited slip or open, power steering or manual?
I posted the wrong info - that was for Ford axles. Go here & you can find a decoder for your axle: http://www2.dana.com/Expert/wc.dll?DSD~demenu~DEMENUA~
You can find out if you have factory L/S by looking at the first digit of the AXLE code on your door sticker - if it's "H", it's L/S. "19" is open 3.55/3.54; "H9" is limited slip 3.55/3.54.
I don't think power steering/nonPS is part of the axle code since it's fully external to the axle.
