Need gear tag Decoded

Hey guys, I'm trying to find out any information I can on a Diff. to replace the bad one I have. The Tag says:

Top line: WDM CN 2B04

Bottom Line: 3.50 9 S318B

I suspect the 3.50 is the gear ratio but not really sure. It's out of a 19082 Ford Truck.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Don

Thanks Dennis for the quick reply.

the unit I am replacing is currently a Limited Slip 4.11 setup out of a 1978 F150 4x4 . Do you think it would be a good idea to use the open diff. and install some type of locker into it? If so what type do you reccommend? I don't really want to go back with just an open Diff.
Also do you think this Diff. will be a good replacement for mine?
Sorry for all the questions.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Don

What are you going to use the truck for and what is under the hood for an engine?

Stump removal,Dragging Semi's around the block?

MY son and I will be using this truck for 2 things. First it will be out hunting truck that will be pulling a trailor with 2 4-wheelers up hwy 77 into West Virginia into some very messy terrrain (mud, snow, steep inclines). Second it will be used to pull a 19' Deep-V Bass Tracker again up Hwy 77 into Virginia to Smith Mountain lake and other lakes in the Mountains. The reason I mention Hwy 77 is that if your farmilliar with that route you know that it is a heavy climb to the top of those mountains going up that way.

Man, you don't know how much I appreciate you getting back to me on this stuff. I just recently found your web site and I'm already very impressed!

Thanks,
Don

Sorry, Forgot to mention that it has a low mileage 351m under the hood and a 4 speed granny low tranny.

Thanks,

Is your truck a 4x4? If it is you will have to match the front and rear axle ratio's or something in the driveline will break when you put it in 4x4 mode.

Yes it's a 4x4... Here is the deal. I have a 1978 F150 4x4 that has a bad carrier in the rear. The 4.11 gear set that was on the carrier seems to be in good shape. So I have found a guy that has a rear end out of a 1982 Ford truck that wants to sell it to me, but I would like to find out what it is before I commit to buying it. That is why I need the tag decoded. MY rear is a 31 spline 9" Limited Slip unit and I suspect his is an open unit. My plan was since I can't seem to find a Limited Slip unit anywhere, to get his if it will work in my case and put some type of locker in it since from what I've read you can only put a locker in an open style carrier, or use the kind of locker that completely replaces the whole carrier unit.
Thanks a bunch guys for helping me with this.

Chuck came in a asked my next question so you have to know this too.

You will need to put a 4.09 or 4.10 in the front axle to mate with the 4.11 rear.

Not mating these will cause all sorts of problems.

MY front already has a D44 with 4.10 gears. My R and P gears in the Rear I have are just fine and I just wanted to know what all the Axle code I mentioned in my first post meant so I can determine if the Carrier will work in my case. Also wanted to know if you guys reccommend a certian brand or type locker.
Thanks,
Don
