Bought an old chainsaw from a buddy's neighbor. He said it was a 1975 and that he picked it up at a yard sale years ago. Almost perfect condition. He sold it to me for $30 and I didn't even care that I knew nothing about it, thats worth it just to have something cool to keep in the garage.
Anyway, on the side it says Sachs Dolmar and on the serial plate says 58cc and model KMS-4.
Looked it up and can't find too much about it, sounds like it's pretty rare. Runs good so I think I'll probably use it but make sure to no beat it up. I know it's made in Germany, the kill switch is labeled in German, instead of "run" and "off" it has the German words.
So anyone know about these or know what they're worth?
Dolmar has been around for a very long time. Built in Germany.
Reputation is very good. Just starting to make major inroads to the US market.Owned by Makita since early 1990's.
well I found a chainsaw forum and posted this up. Guess it's a really rare and collectable saw. Only saw ever w a rotary engine and only made that year.
They said a couple recently sold on ebay for 1,100 and $1,500, both in lesser condition than mine. Talk about a lucky day.
Also read that Stihl was started by 2 engineers from Dolmar.
