A friend came by the house yesterday with a weird squeaking under the hood. We checked all the pulleys and belt tensioner, all checked out fine. Come to find out it’s the A/C compressor pulley making all the noise. Is there a way to rebuild this or do you have to replace the A/C compressor?
Glenn, Replacing the a/c clutch is a easy job just remove the bolt in the middle of the clutch remove the plate, remove the snap ring that holds the bearing ac pulley on tap very lightly on the wheel equally all around to remove, DO NOT put anything between the compressor housing and the wheel to try and pry or you risk damaging the compressor housing or worse. WEAR Safety Glasses just in case. Re-install the new wheel in reverse order and adjust the air gap on the clutch plate and its done. Sometimes the old wheels come off easily, other times.........................................
