I have been having a problem with hubs not locking in when I switch to 4X4 on the dash, this has been a problem since I bought this truck a year ago. So I lock my hubs in manually but the passenger side would not lock in, went to Ford and bought a new hub (ESOF) and pulled the side that was not locking in and too my surprise it was a manual hub, that explains why my hubs would not lock with switch on the dash. The problem is the new hub will not go in the hub, 3 of us tried and the hub will just not go in. after about an hour we gave up. The dealership looked up the hub using my vin # but it will not even start. We compared both hubs and they are the same size, spline and diameter, what could be the problem?
Will the old one go back in? If so I would take the new one back and order a new set of warn premium locking hubs.
I put the old one back on and was able to lock it in, we got another 7 inches of snow yesterday on top of the 9 inches we already have and are expecting another storm again Saturday. I need my 4X4 and right now it is working but I would like to get it back to ESOF.
Just can't figure out why the new one will not go in. The snap ring is a bitch to get back in on a dually, took 2 of us to get it back in as the wheel adapter is so deep no room to work.
Sometimes it's a PITA to get the locking hub back in. The last time I had mine out the driver's side went in smooth as silk and the passenger side took me nearly an hour. It was trial and error. I would spin the inside splines between tries and kept trying until it slid in (and this was on the same locking hub I took out). I don't know where the misalignment was, but it took almost an hour of random attempts before it slide right on.
