ok so why does no one make a kit for the early fords?? has any one tried making a kit from sky manufacturing for a 1992 and up work on an older truck?? i want to get the dana 50ttb out and my 60 in its new home!
the 92-97 kit will work. there may be some slight extra cutting/grinding needed on the front frame horn areas where the kit is installed, but it will def work. I plan to do the same on my '86 two fiddy. out of curiosity, how much lift you goin for???
skys kit says 3" i was going for 2.5 to 3" so itll work good. i want to keep it low enuf so i can carry a camper, but tall enuf to clear 35's i hope, and im trying to keep away from lift springs, i dont want to loose the load capacity
Sounds like you want to do almost exactly the same thing I want to do. They say 3" more for an F350 but remember F350's ride about 2 inches higher than an F250 in the front because F350's have positive arch springs, and TTB F250's have special negative arch TTB springs, so if you decide to use the leaf springs from the F350, then you will actually get about 5" of lift over the stock F250 height. I reccomend not using TTB springs for your SAS as they flex very poorly and have a crappy ride quality.
ya know i never thought about the spring difference, i guess i just assumed it would be three inches overall! five total might be a bit high for a camper guess it depends what it takes to clear the headers with the nex axel!
There are ways around the extra couple inches dilemna. Like way around #1 that says I think F350's came stock with a little 1 inch axle spacer (basically a small lift block) up front. Don't use that. Way around #2 says use different springs than the stock F350 ones. maybe way around #3 says take the secondary leaf out of your ttb leaf pack and put a couple thin AAL's on it to let it bend better? sorry about my whole way number whatever BS. I'll try to thuink of some more ideas to help you out here....
ok, well i got two trucks rite now, my 84 f350 cc 4x4 with a 460 and c6. and i just bought a 1992 f350 7.3idi with an ats 088 turbo kit, zf 5spd 4x4 for parts, got a screaming deal o the diesel!!!!!, so the 92 is going to be my parts truck, axels, springs, and theres a way to drill the diesel zf to fit the 460 so im gona give that a whirl! and how i see them is there out side by the window with a big *** light above where there parked
sounds cool. was the '92 rolled or wrecked or something??? And does it sit much higher than the '84? The '84 F350 TTB 4X4 is basically just an F250 HD without it's dana 60, so I think there would be some stance differences. And if you don't mind, when you get a chance, will you look for those axle spacer block thingies on the front of your '92 and get back to me on that? I'd like to know for sure. Then again it may've only been a diesel thing. who knows? (actually I know who knows, a guy with a stock gasser F350 4X4 knows)
haha,i picked the 92 up from a guy that lived three hours from my house and drove it back!!!!! ive spent a few hours under it and i havent seen any blocks in the front, but ill check again tomorrow just to be shure! it does seem to sit higher than my 84, but hell i think a honda would almost sit higher than that ttb garbage
