Does anyone know if Flowmaster makes a 70 series with 4" pipe in/out?
I have a 50 series with the 4" pipe right now (part # 954055) with a figh flow cat and it's too loud for me, I had a 70 series on my old F250 that I thought was too quiet, but it had the enormous stock cat so I think the 70 series would do me just about right with this one.
I couldn't find on on the FM web site, but it also didn't show the muffler I have without entering the part number.
I contacted Flowmaster and got a quick reply back with several suggestions, good customer service BTW.
The suggestions were to
A)downsize the pipe to 3.5" and use the 50 series part #53550
B)Install a resonator
C)Go to the Hushpower model part #14020100
I'll probably go with option B, just need to decide what muffler will work best as a resonator, I'm leaning toward a Dynomax 16" long round muffler. I really just want it quieter at idle and low speed/load so I don't wake the neighbors.
I never saw a 4" in/out 70 series. If your running a 4" system on the 460 truck in your sig it better be pushing over 600hp or it way too big. A single 3" system is more than enough for a stock or mild 460.
I agree with you, if I had done it myself it would have been a 3" or maybe a3.5", but this was done by the previous owner. It actually works well, I noticed a lot more power throughout the rpm range compared to the stock exhaust on the '95 crew cab with the 460 I just traded it off for. I haven't had a chance to get the camper (3400#) on it yet and take it over the mountain, but it doesn't feel like it's going to be a problem.
Money is the biggest problem, I don't want to pony up for a complete new exhaust system from the y-pipe back when my only problem is too loud of an idle. I should be able to get a resonator on there for a hundred bucks or so, which suits me just fine.
The Flowmaster Force II catback is a good system for gas trucks that do towing. It comes with the FM70 muffler and is a full mandrel bent system. I have installed 2 Force II catbacks on 6.8l SDs and they sound and perform very well. Since money is an issue you could add a 4" glasspack muffler. Yeah 3400 lbs shouldn'tbe a problem at all.
