LESSON LEARNED: Parking Aide Fix

Well, after almost $500 spent on new PA module, 4 new bumper sensors and a new dash switch, I finally got it fixed. The PA speaker was bad.

I owe someone on the site rep points but cannot find the post. In there response to a PA problem someone else posted, they noted a bad speaker will cause the system to fault. I did not know that and never thought about it. As soon as I read that, I knew that was the problem since I did a continuity check on all of the PA wiring. I pulled the speaker out and tested it. It was dead. Got a new one today and now it works fine.

If anyone has replaced stuff to troubleshoot the PA, you might want to start with a $22 speaker vice the expensive route I took.

If you need parts I have a control module and 3 good bumper sensors available. The 4th sensor I destroyed to make a rig to do the continuity test. PM me.

FYI - the PA control module is located on the front wall of the passenger side tail light facing forward. The speaker is located right above it next to the passenger side large rear window latch. You will see holes in the panel.

Wow what a exspensive mistake...Well at least others will know now...For $500 you could have bought the new front and rear laser jammer from Blinder, they have parking sensors in them as well, incase others have to replace a whole set-up,but they are not legal in some states..

I know it is too late now, but a good scan tool (SPX, Snap On) will be able to access the PAM (Park Aid Module) and run a self test. This would have ID the speaker as being bad. I used a nice SPX Genisys to diagnose my problem and it correctly led me to the sensor that was bad. Replaced it and all is good now.

Thanks,
Tom
