Hi all,
What is the max amount of miles you would consider purchasing a truck?
The truck will be a second vehicle replacing a wrecked Ranger. I have been looking at 94-97 F1/250 extended cab 4x4 V8 trucks auto or manual and have come across most with 200,000+ miles. This is great knowing they will go this far but I am fearful of this mileage. I do most all my own wrenching but don't want to start major stuff right after purchase if I can help it.
Thanks
ehh mileage well it depends on the condition of the vehicle.... if it has 200k miles and looks pritty good i say go for it..... if it looks like something that got pulled out of the bottom of the scrap heap well its ur money but dont expect much.....
my dad has a 96 explorer with 260k miles and drives as good now as it did when it was new... and there are no problems with it....
so its not really mileage but how well its been taken care of
dont let the mileage scare you, if the truck looks good and drives good it was most likely taken care of. i just bought a high mileage ford and i could not be happier with it. 96 f150 2wd, 244,xxx miles. i did a good tune up on it when i got and it runs great.
with that many miles I think it gets easier to pick the good ones .. if it's not gonna be a daily driver I'd go for it ..
.. also think about how many miles you'd like to put on it for your investment, not just the money to buy, but in time and materials to keep it going .. I know there are some out there that see 500K or more, but not too many ..

This is what it boils down to. My truck has 165,000 miles on it and drives amazingly. I drove a guys dokota the other day with like 50,000 on it and i thought the thing was going to die on me.
