Duh! Don't know why I didn't think of this earlier. Easy way to tell between a '72 Ford and '73 is to assume a position in front of the truck, pop the hood and then lift it. Watch really close to see if the letters F-O-R-D go up with the hood. If they do then it is 72 or earlier. In 73 they put the FORD name into the grill. Also on a 72 there are chrome reflectors on the sides of the hood that say Ford 100, 250, so on. As for posting a pic? I failed at that the other day as well, can't help ya there. Hope you solve your puzzle. Once you determin the vintage of the hood then count the lugs on your wheels, 5 or 8? 5 = 1/2 ton and 8 = 3/4 + ton. As far as small block or big block have the casting # decoded or simply take a look at the valve covers and run into the parts store and look at the gaskets for the valve covers. Which matches? If its a 302 your done, if its a big block you will need to decode casting #.... don't ask me where they are, its too cold to go looking for them. Good luck!
well the hood doesnt have any ford written on it nor any holes on it either. but the grill isnt the right grill either. i just sent off some more pics so maybe he will post them so that all can see
wow that looks just like my truck hah hah looks like 67-72 was invaded by a couple of 73-9 pics Good job duckhead remind me to promote you to recon specialist, and again hah hah
Looks to me like someone was pretty creative. I would not have thought about putting a 71 grille in a 73-9 pickup. It looks like it fit 'kinda' anyway. There should be a vin on the right frame rail just behind the shock bracket on top of the rail. Boy it does look cold, there.
yeah it is cold here. but soon it will be all over moving to arizona in march(i am in the military). but that said and done does anyone know exactly which year it is. i keep looking for the vin but cant find it. maybe it's the cold messing with me. i will try again tomorrow and find the vin
How do you get suspended from posting. Well anyways I think your truck is a '73 the only thing that makes a big difference in finding parts is the engine. The 360 was very popular and they used it from 1958 to 1976 I think.
Seriously that does not sound like something that could get you suspended, I believe they call it the first amendment but with all these restrictions that you have to read through I am sure that you waive all constitutional rights when you sign up. Don't turn this wonderful site into a totaly policed site. Ubless you guys (moderators) force at least a few people to use the English grammar that we have all decided to use. Thats all I have to say.
That looks really weird like that, somebody's replaced quite a few stuff, it's a '73-79 Body with a '70-72 grill and '71 grill inserts. As for the VIN on the door, the door could have been replaced. I've got a '68 F100 that I verified with the VIN on the frame, but the door came off of an F650 because the VIN on it says F65blah blah blah. Speaking of which, anyone know what to do in a case like this? I would like to get the VIN plate replaced with the correct VIN, but I have no idea where the old door is, and the previous owner of the truck is gone.
Sorry I didn't post your pics man. I got the email and the you can't reply to email sent through FTE. I couldn't find the poster who asked me to post them. I have all your pics on my gallery, but I guess they are taken care of now.
