Trying to get the egr hooked up properly. All the missing vac lines has my head spinning. What are these things? I could see that the egr and pvs were hooked to them. Would be cool if someone knows how to hook them back up. Thank you.
I found a diagram posted by mil1ion(thankyou) showing how to hook up the vacuum amplifier(black piece) but it doesn't show the other piece. Seems like if vacuum is applied to the single port side it allows air to be sucked in through a filter on the very end where the 2 ports are. Air is allowed to pass through the 2 ports also no matter if there is vacuum applied to the other side or not. I'm assuming it goes in the line between the pvs switch and egr valve. Then the side with the single port goes to a port on the rear driver's side of the carb. Sound right? The port on the carb doesn't have any vacuum at idle or throttle so I wonder if it's something to do with altitude. Any ideas? I never would have thought 1979 could be so compicated...lol.
I followed the puzzle to get this vacuum amplifier hooked up and it still doesn't work right. Wants to open egr valve at idle. So I fool around forever trying to figure out what I did wrong and can't get it to work. Finally take the amp apart and it has a ripped diaphragm in it. Have a spare one so take it apart and it's ripped too. So now I hook up the egr without the amp and it opens fully with just a slight bit of rpm. Wants to miss from this so I put a spark delay valve in the line and it opens slower and runs ok. Not sure if it's right though. Might be doing more damage with an egr working improperly than not working at all. Truck runs good without it. What damage am I doing to the engine? I have heard it'll run lean without the egr. It has just as much power, doesn't ping or pop out the carb with the egr disconnected. What else will indicate a lean mixture? How do you jet these carbs without a dyno or analyzer? Thanks.
