noticed the other day that i had some kind of liquid dripping for the needle on the fuel gauge in the dash. now it has ran down for the needle to the bottom of the cluster. not sure what it is or where it came from? is there a way to pull the cover off the clean it. i will try to post a pic to give you all a better understanding.
I'm assuming its not a mechanical gauge with the fuel line going into the back of the gauge? If it is, it could be fuel, but you'd smell it. Is it one of those liguid filled gauges?
EDIT: I was thinking fuel pressure gauge, but do you mean the fuel gauge for the fuel level in the tank?
Here's what I have on removing the cowl to get to the instrument panel.

Remove the radio using a U shaped radio removal tool from your local auto store. The U shaped tools slide into the holes on your radio. Do not push them in to far, just about an inch. If pushed in to far radio will not come out. Slightly push out on each and the radio will slide out. The dash cover will unsnap to give you access for replacement. There are 2 phillips head screws pointing up above the radio you may want to loosen before you pull the dash off. You will need to unplug the 2 wiring clips on the back of the headlight switch, unplug the radio & antenna, and unplug your power point and the dash will be off.

When I removed that part of my dash I removed the headlight switch, bought the U-shaped tools to remove the radio, unplugged the radio & headlight switch and then just unsnapped the dash cover. There are (2) screws above the radio that point up which may need to be loosened to get the dash off but I didn't have to do that on mine. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Head Light Switch Removal:
On older models w/o fog lights turn on the head lights. Pull out switch so it pops out a bit. You will see a small hole. Using a small diameter tool that will fit in this hole push the detent to remove the switch ****. Turn the **** 180 degrees and press **** back on. Turn the **** back to the on position to turn lights off. You will feel the switch hit a release lever and the entire black rectangular unit along with dimmer will pull out.
Well my WAG would be liquid entered from above (where the outer front dash panel meets the "dash". I've had my cluster apart many times, all the gauges are electric, and if there was some "lubricant" on the mechanism, I'd dare say it would be THAT much. I suppose it could also be possible condensation, but highly unlikely.
It's pretty easy to get the cluster out, once you remove that front dash panel, your 4 screws away. (8mm IIRC) There is no "cable", just ribbin connectors on the back of the cluster. Keep us updated.
I'm gonna chime in with some condensation or a leak of some sorts...maybe from the door seal, or windshield seal, running down the backside of the dash, and the fuel indicator may be the closest "out" for an exit...when i used to work on bowties, i got to chase down strange leaks from all over the place...it was back in the early 90's, and fit and finish were not GM's paramount like it is now...lol
