I leave mine locked in for weeks at a time when I use my 4WD regularly. I can't notice any mileage penalty leaving them locked. In fact locking the front hubs from time to time could even give benefits such as keeping the u-joints from freezing up due to lack of use.
I'd pump a few shots of grease in the front u-joints and leave them locked in if you live where it snows.
yeh i leave mine in when theres snow on the ground, just cause i never know when i would need four wheel drive on the roads or pullin into a parkin lot.. thanks guys for the replies..

On my fire department we have two F550 light rescues, a 2005 and a 2006. Upon delivery of each, the front hubs were locked and other than for a couple of long freeway trips for service, the front hubs have not been unlocked in either truck for over 15,000 miles.
As a Ford tech, I have replaced far more front end components due to corrosion from lack of use than I have ever replaced for being "worn out."
There's been theories of better outer axle stub alingment with the hubs locked and even less wear on some parts. I personally believe the posts above have been right on, and it's just fine to leave them locked for a bit.
