Load Range D vs E on Ex
I just did a 4500mile road trip back from Florida and bought new tires in Georgia on the way back. I was told to go with E rated just for the simple peace of mind in case I load the heck out of the truck or even tow something (The Ex is just a family hauler primarily). It would be aweful to be in a situation where you really need the e-rated tires and don't have them.
I bought the General Grabber HTS in a 275/65R20 and they are fantastic highway tires. Mileage was good and the cornering of the truck was amazing (I am used to sports cars). It was a little bouncy when I was running with just me in the truck and at 75psi. I had it loaded down with gear from Vancouver, BC to Cochrane, AB and the ride was much better with weight. I think tdappleman makes a good point of run high inflation for mileage but lessen it a bit for comfort. I haven't tried it yet at 60psi but will do so.
Cost of the tires was cheap ($186 each at Tire Rack) and they are fantastic in dry, wet and for hydroplaning. Haven't really had much of a chance for ice and snow (yet) but that time will come soon as we are still in the middle of winter up here. For a highway type tire, these are awesome value. The 265/75R16 are $128 each, FYI

I had 13.5" Pro Comps on the truck when I got it but they were AWEFUL on the highway - tramlining everywhere. It was tiring to have to constantly correct the truck or try and stay high on the crowns of the road. The 275s are MUCH better for that and a quieter ride.
They are only 25/64" narrower than a 285 so not a huge difference, but I agree - I like wider rubber in general.
