Exhaust or Lifter?
Little history of the truck
V10 208,000 miles it gets run everyday and does a lot of highway driving
In the past anytime I've started up the truck either cold or after the oil has drain back down for the first 1/2 miles I've had a ticking noise then it goes away.
This week it hasn't though. When idleing I here it tick tick tick. Start to accelerate the ticking becomes a bit faster then I can't hear it anymore. (could be my exhaust is to loud).
Now I do have about 3 bolts on each side on the manifolds that have been broken for a long time. And when I let it idle I get up in there and can't feel or see a leak.
Could I have a lifter sticking or worn?
What is the proper procedure to check this and its symptoms?
Thanks
After I posted this I was doing some more searching on this subject and found a few posts that went back to the sparkplugs loosing up. I never new it was recommend to re torque ever 25k miles.
Well needless to say I went out and found 2 plugs that were loose on the drivers side. The middle one and the one just before it. Removed and retighten. A bit hesitant to snug right up cause it feels like its gonna strip. So I tighten it as far as I felt comfortable. Did an oil change amist all this. Fired it up and no more ticking that I've been noticing this week.
Manifold bolts I'll have to get done at somepoint this year.
