I have gotten an after market set of very nice running boards. They are heavy aluminum with lights on top and bottom. They were free and have a universal mounting bracket system. The problem is they are too long for my 05 supercab. What I was wondering was, has anyone ever ran 2' past the cab toward the bed before? I thought about doing this and leaving the last bracket loose with a single bolt to retain the flex. I will cut them down as a last resort but wanted to check others experiences.
My other question is where should you tie the lights in? I was thinking of trying to tie into the door switch so they came on when the door opened. Or is there a better location?
I have mine tied into the interior auto lighting circut. I am not sure (will check later, after the sun comes up) but I believe the wire you want to tap into is purple/black. You will find under the door threshold trim. It is easy to get to as well - just pierce through on of the rubber grommets - no drilling required.
This circuit will run your lighting anytime the dome lights are on. They will light up and fade out just as the domes do. I found this to work best, as they will come on when you unlock with the remote or kepad.
