Had the camera out and discovered a few leaky spots that I'm not sure how to remedy. Maybe you guys can help me figure these out.
First up is a leak on the exhaust manifold over the first passenger side cylinder (#1 I think):
Any idea what this could mean? Valve covers haven't leaked in years (fixed that) and all the other cylinders are clean at the manifolds. Wondering if its my valve job coming back to haunt me...
Might explain some of the oil buildup in the exhaust system. Here is a shot of the buildup in the tailpipe:
Lastly is a leak I discovered on the front driver's side cylinder head. It is just a seeping wet spot right now but any idea where it is coming from?
Any helps or hints would be appreciated greatly, thanks fellas.
One other thing I figured I would ask about since I finally have a picture...any idea what this buildup on my vacuum pump is? The pump seems to run everything just fine minus cruise control (haven't gotten that far to diagnose it yet).
The pipes stay black on these are you using a lot of oil . on the drivers side are you sure that is coming out from the head. It looks like you had a slight leak on you exhaust manifold and some oil burnt and stopped the leak. lol
I usually have to add a quart or two between oil changes depending on how much work I do with it. I know these trucks stay black exhaust wise, but that photo doesn't do it justice honestly. It has a pretty thick coat of carbon on the inside. Even more than the powerstroke!
On the head, it appears to be at the spot where the head/valley pan meet the block. I might have to investigate a bit further to pinpoint where exactly it is seeping from.
At first that is what I thought too, oil burning off a leak. But then I wondered if maybe that cylinder was pulling in oil creating the extra consumption. Could it even be possible? The rig has never ran the same since it had valve seals done. Pulling a hard hill loaded or not leaves a blue haze. Even with my vigorous CDR cleaning every oil change.
