I have a '73 351w with no distributor. Upon Research I find that there are single vacuum advance dual vacuum advance, with governor, without governor. What do I need?
you should go eletronic, i have a 74 351W and the points were garbage. i put a msd ready to run single vacume advance on and it works great. just make sure you get the correct gear to mach ur cam
I agree on ditching the points, upgrade to a Duraspark module and distributor - get parts from/for a 1982 or so F150/250. Just a single vacuum advance, no governor.
Apparently lots of people have trouble with points. However, I have them on my daily drivers and they work just fine. It's slightly troublesome to set the gap on Ford points as they tend to shift a bit when tightening the locking screw. So it's a few minutes extra work every few years.
The correct distributor for that year uses points, and the diaphragm and governor style depends on the particular vehicle application.
Do you need the exact stock replacement distributor? If not, what are your plans for the engine?
