howdy all, been doing some serious mechanical work on my 81 (see signature) and she'll be getting a shiney built up 300 here as soon as i can finish putting it together. but i got to thinking that i don't really care for the ratio i have in my axles, a 3.00:1.......right now i have 33 x 12.5 r15 tires on her, and it can go down the road ok, but i will admit that she was a little doggy. i'm sure alot of that was my tired 300 giving out, but still i would like to do something that will give me a little more acceleration, especially at highway speeds.
i was considering gearing the diffs to 3.73, but idk how well it will do. has anyone done alot a ratio testing on this forum? i also would like to do a little pulling with this truck, like a gooseneck camper or car trailer someday, so with that in mind, would anyone recommend gearing lower than 3.73? does anyone know of a certain brand that i should aim to stick with as far as gears go? any input is well appreciated in advance, thanks!
Kenny...there's a long thread on the subject of gearing running in the 87-96 forum, but the general feeling on there is with your setup 4.10s would be ok, but 4.56s would be prefered. You should check it out...
